The meeting, to be held on Wednesday February 15, was arranged by Tasmanian Liberal senator Jonathon Duniam.
”In accordance with its lease with the Commonwealth the Launceston Airport is required to pay an ex gratia rate contribution to the Northern Midlands Council,” a statement from the council said.
“Launceston Airport consistently fails to contribute their fair share of ex gratia rates as determined by the Tasmanian State Valuer-General.
The statement said the council had agreed to remove the signage in the municipality regarding the dispute as a show of good faith.
“A positive outcome from the meeting with the Minister will ensure the signage will not return. We will provide further advice on the outcome of these discussions in due course.”
Northern Midlands Mayor David Downie and the Launceston Airport’s general manager Paul Hodgen have been contacted for comment.
