Plans for the public space aim to fix a number of problems identified during public consultation in 2014, including underutilisation of the square, limited infrastructure for events, uninviting seating and limited provision of weather-protected areas.
“The proposed redevelopment of Civic Square seeks to revitalise the space and include a large number of community infrastructure improvements,” the application said.
“This broadly includes an upgrade of landscape features throughout, … a new family gathering play space area, central flexible event area with stage, lighting and wayfinding signage.”
Detailed plans can be found on the City of Launceston website or be viewed in person at the council offices at Town Hall.
The closing date for representations relating to the redevelopment is February 20.
