Dr Thornton was born in Devonport, educated in Launceston and is now based in Melbourne.
She is a well-known surgeon with a passion for helping women and raising awareness around breast cancer. She said awareness around breast screening was needed.
She said she was raised aware of a family history of breast cancer, and lost her “favourite aunt” to breast cancer when she was 12.
“I felt that I could make a difference to a woman’s life by choosing the breast cancer surgery field,” she said.
The Clifford Craig Foundation fundraiser luncheon is on Friday March 10 at 12pm at Hotel Grand Chancellor, Launceston. It is $76 per person including a two course meal and a champagne on arrival. RSVP is March 3 or until sold out.
