Meander Valley Regional Recreational Precinct working group member Laura Richardson said the decision was great news for the Deloraine community.
“Obviously our working group is delighted that council have agreed to work with the community bank to progress the feasibility study,” Ms Richardson said.
“It's a big step for the project and we're confident that the feasibility study will show the project is very worthy and very much needed in Deloraine and the surrounding community.”
Mrs Richardson said the working group would continue working with council and the Deloraine and Districts Community Bank to advance the project.
“The working group is keen to progress as soon as we possibly can.”
Meander Valley mayor Craig Perkins thanked the bank and the working group for their contributions to the project so far.
“One thing that's really important from council's point of view was recognising the time and effort that members of Deloraine sporting groups have put into planning what their future needs might be,” Cr Perkins
“Council will take those ideas and do a more detailed analysis around the feasibility in terms of costs, running costs, user groups and the like around all those facilities which include squash, basketball, netball and soccer.”
Cr Perkins said council was very conscious of the need to spread its resources evenly across the municipality.
“I think there's a fair and reasonable expectation from councillors that Deloraine is just one part of the municipality and there are needs in Westbury and Prospect Vale and some of the smaller rural communities in terms of recreational needs.
“We need to plan the municipality's future recreational needs around the whole municipality.”
