Tasmania Police received reports of an upturned vessel off Laurderdale beach about 9.20pm on Tuesday.
Police, Marine and Rescue personnel and local residents spent about 50 minutes scouring the area for any occupants.
A 54-year-old man was found during the search.
The Lauderdale man was not injured.
The catamaran was to be retrieved on Wednesday morning.
