Georgia Babos, 19, works at Target on weekends and another full-time job during the week. She was selected from more than 130 entries nationwide.
“I didn’t know I was nominated, I just got a call to say I’d won the prize. I actually wanted to hang up on the lady because I thought it was a scam,” Miss Babos said.
“I told her it was a scam and I wasn’t going to ring her back… and then she told me it wasn’t a scam and I’d actually won the award.”
Shop Distributive and Allied employees association Tasmania branch secretary Paul Griffin said the group was proud to announce Georgia as the award recipient.
“Georgia has demonstrated that she is hardworking, dedicated, and reliable, and always gives 100 per cent at Target,” Mr Griffin said.
Miss Babos plans to use her $500 prize money on getting her driver's licence. The award is in its third year.
