City Mission, the St Vincent de Paul Society, the Salvation Army, the Launceston Benevolent Society and Colony 47, in partnership with the Launceston City Council, have launched the Launceston City Community Christmas.
City Mission chief executive Stephen Brown said the event would allow about 400 members of the local community to join together for a free buffet lunch on Christmas Day.
“We’ve decided to expand the luncheon that we typically held on Christmas Day and collaborate with all the other agencies that we have in the city,” he said. “We’re opening it up to the community at large so we get that postive interaction of people, because there is lots of people who eat by themselves or with only one other person.”
The event will be held at the Albert Hall and will include support for children, and a special visit from Santa.
