A man has been shot dead and another is in custody after a dispute between neighbours, police say.
A 65-year-old man has been charged with murder after a 45-year-old man was found dead on a property at Lottah, near Weldborough.
Police attended the scene after receiving a call from the alleged offender about 7pm Saturday night.
The victim was located at the property and is believed to have suffered a single fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Police believe a shotgun belonging to the 65-year-old man was used in the alleged murder.
The alleged offender was found at the scene and taken into police custody.
“I understand both parties are known to each other and we believe there has been some sort of incident which has escalated and led to this situation,” Acting Inspector Bob Baker said.
“It’s an ongoing investigation but our understanding is there was some sort of disagreement between both parties.”
Acting Inspector Baker said police did not suspect anybody else was involved and there had been no eyewitnesses to the shooting.
Police are yet to determine if the incident occurred on the victim's property.
The victim’s name has not been released.
The 65-year-old man appeared in an out-of-hours court session on Sunday at 10am.
He was remanded to appear at a Launceston court on Monday at 2.15pm.

Police are the investigating the death of a 47-year-old man at Lottah, near Weldborough.
The man is believed to have suffered a single gunshot wound.
At 7pm on Saturday police were called to an address at Lottah where they found the man.
A 65-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.
Investigations are continuing and it is likely charges will be laid, police say.
