Hayden James Morrison allegedly attacked Rory Allen Sain on August 14 during an alleged stealing incident.
In court on Friday, he pleaded not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm.
He will face a trial in the Launceston Supreme Court, likely next year.
He will next appear on December 12.
His stealing charge was adjourned to a later date, to be determined.
