Medical waste investigated

The Environment Protection Authority is examining several bags of medical waste that were found at the South Esk River at Hadspen. Meander Valley Mayor Craig Perkins said the council was contacted about the waste, attended the site and reported the discovery to the EPA immediately on September 27. An EPA spokeswoman said the EPA responded to the discovery, believed to be clinical waste.

“The EPA identified the source of the waste and has contacted the company involved … the material has been removed and the EPA’s enquiries are continuing,” she said.
