Launceston Scale Model Club president Justin Lee said the 9am to 5pm event was set to take over the RACT Function Centre from the outside all the way up to level two.
“We’ll have sci-fi which is like the Daleks and TARDIS from Doctor Who, right down to large train sets and slot cars, and this year we've got a lot of big planes turning up,” Mr Lee said.
Mr Lee encouraged visitors to bring along their own scale model cars to compete in a series of challenges in the grandstands.
“We're going to do a Hot Wheels race which will be an endurance race across the apron here and also a large jump going off the grandstand to see how far we can go out on to the ground.”
All funds raised at the event will be donated to Australian charity Legacy.
Entry is free for children under five, $3 for children under 12, $7 for adults and $18 for a family.
