Home games were off the table for several weeks in June after floodwaters left the ground and clubrooms more than half a metre underwater.

Working groups managed to clear the ground of sand, gravel and logs but could not stop floodwaters ruining carpets, electricals, doors and cupboards inside the clubrooms.

With much of the indoor damage not covered by insurance, the club was facing a considerable repairs bill before a Northern business – Bunnings Kings Meadows – stepped in to offer assistance.

Club vice-president Glenn Armstrong said the business’ contribution had been “huge”.

“After the waters had subsided, a couple of days later the guys here at Bunnings gave us a call and asked if they could help us in any way, shape, or form regarding things like carpet, doors, cupboards, all those sorts of things,” Armstrong said. 

“Our president Shaun Donohue came in and had a yak with them and they were good enough to donate some carpet to us to redo our carpeting area and donate a few doors for the doors that have warped due to water getting in them.

There’s also some cupboards for our office that they’ve been able to provide to us which has been awesome.”

Armstrong said while more work needed to be done in the off-season to get the clubrooms back up to standard, the contribution from the business had been invaluable.

“We had a home game where the flooring was still a bit ordinary but everything now is nearly back to where it was before the floods – the carpet's gone in (last) week, it looks awesome.

“Anything we've talked to them about, they've been as quick as they could to help us with anything.

"They've also donated a voucher to us to be used for any other repairs that we might need for any sort so we just can't thank these guys enough.”

Club representatives met recently with Premier Will Hodgman and Building and Construction Minister Guy Barnett to discuss the possibility of a new recreation precinct in Deloraine.
