UPDATE 10.45am: Tasmania Police has urged the driving public to check online before taking to the roads, or picking up the phone.
Information on road closures and weather-affected roads is available via the Tasmania police website and the TasALERT website.
Tasmania Police radio dispatch services Sergeant Michael Glancy said motorists should never drive around road closure signs, or take them off the roadway.
“Roads are closed for the safety of the public and by ignoring these closures your actions can compromise the safety of yourself and other motorists,” Sergeant Glancy said.
“You may also negate your vehicle’s insurance policy by driving on closed roads.
"Give yourself plenty of time to drive to your destination, take care and be patient as road crews work to clear any effected roads as soon as possible".
