Erin Gray, of Legana, and her partner are just two of hundreds of VIP Sheds customers who fear they will be thousands of dollars out-of-pocket after placing orders with the company.
Customers from across Australia all claim to have been told a wide range of excuses as to why their shed had not been delivered – ranging from a busy Christmas period to delays with the Spirit of Tasmania.
The company continued to take orders from customers up until early this month, but last week, it is understood the business went into administration.
Customers have now been left with no shed and potentially no chance of getting their money back.
Ms Gray placed an order for an almost $7000 shed in October last year and was told it would arrive in no more than 10 weeks.
Six months later and she still has not received her shed.
“We’ve just built a house and we were looking for a shed to go with it … we shopped around and [VIP Sheds] was considerably cheaper than most places,” Ms Gray said.
“We got the invoice for the plans and we ended up paying $6745 but we paid it in two lots – 50 per cent when we ordered it, so $3372.50, and we got told we would be required to pay the other half when it was ready on the packing table.”
As the months ticked past, Ms Gray still had not heard when her shed would be delivered and even after several phone calls, she could not get any information.
Ms Gray said she eventually discovered that while her shed was ordered, it was never made or packed by the company.
“We’ve had to do all the calling, they’ve never called to say the shed was going to come, the only time they called was when they wanted their other 50 per cent,” she said.
“We’ll have to save up and get another [shed], it’s just so hard.
“I just keep thinking about all the things that $7000 could do … it’s just so endless.”
VIP Sheds and Sidach Sheds could not be contacted for comment on Thursday.
