Mid-court and goal circle dynamo Kate Gibson will lead the open team with Cath van Keulen her vice-captain.
Gibson has been an open player for two seasons and will be hoping she can help the new-look open team go one better than their 2015 runner-up finish.
``Kate is an absolute inspiration and a workhorse and has consistently shown her true colours by always presenting front and centre in the numerous tough physical contests in netball,’’ Cavaliers president David Thomas said.
The 19-and-under team will be lead by 17-year-old Sarah Stuart supported by vice captains Hannah Lee and Jordan Holloway-Clarke.
Thomas described Stuart as a pivotal player in the past two Cavaliers 19 and under premiership teams.
Cavaliers celebrated 20 years in the Tasmanian Netball League at their season-launch event in Launceston on Saturday, announcing their teams of the decade and publishing a history of the club entitled Courting Victory.
The club has been a powerhouse in state netball winning 16 premierships at open and age-restricted levels in that time.
With 11 of those flags coming in the past decade, Thomas said the club’s teams of the decade were brimming with talent.
``The selection process involved over a dozen past and current coaches and club officials arriving at teams that reflected the best players in what has been a golden period for the Cavaliers,” Thomas said.
Heading up the open team of the decade list is club champion, current open coach and 2015 retiring player Dannie Carstens.
Carstens, a member of five premiership teams, finished her playing career with seven club best and fairest awards and was a 10-times state all-star selection as the league’s best goal defence.
A member of the club’s first team of the decade announced at the end of 2005, she was also inducted into the Cavaliers Hall of Fame alongside previous inductees Tracee Cook (nee Bullman) and Amanda Cowley (nee Prewer).
Keeping track of the Cavaliers’ successes and history was the task of former president and club historian Chris Carstens, and former journalist and sponsor Bret Salinger, who have written a history of the club.
``Courting Victory includes details on every player to have competed for the Cavaliers, as well as stories of the club’s premierships and write-ups on the teams of the decade players,” Thomas said.
