Christo Brown has been charged with rape and aggravated burglary.
It is alleged Mr Brown broke into a 76-year-old woman’s West Launceston home and raped her on July 29 last year.
Following the alleged incident, Mr Brown was found by Victorian officers in Melbourne.
Tasmania Police was required to extradite him back to Launceston to face the charges and he arrived in Launceston in the company of detectives in early August.
Mr Brown fronted the Launceston Magistrates Court on September 3 and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
His case was sent to the Supreme Court soon after and Mr Brown was bailed.
He was expected to face Justice Stephen Estcourt on Monday morning, but did not appear.
As a result, an arrest warrant for Mr Brown was issued.
Northern Detective Inspector John King said an investigation was under way to determine Mr Brown’s whereabouts.
‘‘We are not sure of his exact location at the moment and will be conducting some interstate inquiries,’’ he said.
