Group managing director Dean Cocker confirmed on Monday that the project was still a focus for the company.
‘‘We believe that that is something we would like to take to the next level,’’ he said.
Mr Cocker said the JAC Group was waiting for an engineering report before the proposal could be put forward.
‘‘We’ve instructed the manufacturer to put together a more detailed engineering design for that proposal so that we can put something – a firmer proposal – before council to consider,’’ he said.
‘‘We would hope that if that gets through it would be a great boon for tourism in Launceston and Northern Tasmania, and we would hope that the community would support that.’’
A JAC Group-commissioned EMRS phone poll last July found 77 per cent of 600 residents and businesses polled were in favour of the Skylift gondola proposal.
The Launceston City Council adopted the final plan for the Reimagining the Gorge Project in December last year.
