Kathryn Thomas, a global learning leader for International Business Machines, will help oversee the transition to a single vocational education and training entity.
Mr McKim said one of Mrs Thomas' first tasks would be to appoint a chief executive officer.
``Mrs Thomas is an outstanding and experienced leader and has demonstrated experience, knowledge and understanding of vocational education and training,'' Mr McKim said.
``She understands the impact of VET on the economic and social well-being of Tasmania and is an excellent appointment to this new and important education initiative.''
