The state government announced on Thursday that Commissioner Hine had accepted to continue on in the role.
He has held the position since 2010.
Minister for Police and Emergency Managemene Rene Hidding said Commissioner Hine was held in high regard in the law and justice community around the nation, particularly for his leadership in the community on key matters such as family violence and his strong commitment to enforcing public safety in Tasmania.
''We look forward to him using the Liberal Government’s major enhancement of police numbers from 1120 to 1233 over this term of government to best effect,'' Mr Hidding said.
Commissioner Hine will continue in his role as secretary of the Department of Police and Emergency Management.
