TWO former prisoners who served time with the main person of interest in the disappearance of Lucille Butterworth have told an inquest he made admissions about her murder. Hobart man Leigh Wise told the coronial inquest examining Ms Butterworth's suspected homicide in 1969 that Geoffrey Charles Hunt told him in jail that ''the best way to pick up girls is at the bus stop''. Hunt was jailed in 1976 for the brutal murder of Susan Knight and has been named as the prime suspect in Ms Butterworth's disappearance. Mr Wise said Hunt told him in 1977 that ''they got me on one but they didn't get me on another''. He said he thought Hunt was just ''big noting'' himself, and only realised this month when he saw the news that it could have been Ms Butterworth. Another former prisoner, Philip Thow, said Hunt had told him he got away with killing someone called Jill Butterworth. ''He told me he got away with murdering...I'm sure he said Jill Butterworth, but it was definitely Butterworth,'' Mr Thow said in a police interview. Mr Thow said Hunt told him he disposed of Ms Butterworth's body ''where it would never, ever be found''. Ms Butterworth was last seen alive at a Claremont bus stop in August 1969.
