Simon Tennant has been appointed as the 15th editor of The Examiner. "I feel incredibly honoured to be appointed editor of The Examiner, one of Australia's oldest newspapers," Tennant said. "I want The Examiner to continue to be a voice for the community and lead a newsroom that is a strong advocate for the North and push for positive change for the region.” Tennant, 45, started working for The Examiner in 1986, and began his journalism career in 1996. He has worked across a number of areas in editorial - including as a court reporter and police reporter and football writer. He also spent time working as a photographer before moving into a sub-editing role in 2000. He was promoted to night news editor in 2005. In 2010, Tennant took on the full-time role as digital editor - a position he held up until today's announcement. "We have an extremely talented group of young journalists and helping them grow and develop their skills is front and centre to what I hope we can achieve now and into the future." Group Managing Editor of Fairfax Media Tasmania Mark Baker said Tennant’s appointment was excellent news as the company continues to grow its digital operations. “Simon has held numerous roles at The Examiner in his 29 years, including reporter, photographer, sub-editor, night news editor and most recently digital editor,” he said. “These skills across multiple areas of the business will ensure The Examiner continues to be a leader in both digital and print in Northern Tasmania.” Tennant is married with two teenage children. Courtney Greisbach has been named the new editor of The Examiner’s sister publication The Advocate.
