The state government will move to introduce 10-year term limits for the director of public prosecutions. Attorney-General Vanessa Goodwin says in the wake of the exit of former DPP Tim Ellis, the laws would be changed to cap the role at 10 years. Dr Goodwin told Parliament that the office holders would be barred from reapplying for the role at the end of their terms. Mr Ellis was sacked in January, after being found guilty of causing the death of Launceston's Natalia Pearn in a Midland Highway car crash in 2013. Dr Goodwin said the legislation would also create the position of deputy DPP. She said the laws would be available for public comment early next month.
