The main event is ripping up George Town's Macquarie Street.
Racing legend Jim Richards and driver-come-TV celebrity Grant Denyer drew cheers from the crowd - as did anyone who gave it just a little too much gas.
The lip heading into Regent Square's car park is providing plenty of thrills for spectators, but no spills - yet.
EARLIER
The scene is set for Targa Tasmania to rip through the usually quiet George Town streets.
Spectators have turned out in droves, with some having set up camp as early as 8.30am.
The town is looking forward to a faster, competitive stage, thanks to the George Town section of the rally now being included in the full Targa event, rather than being a prologue stage as in previous years.
There's barely a cloud in the sky, and the temperature is expected to reach 17 degrees, providing ideal conditions for Motorsport fans.
Cars are expected to roll into the Main Street from noon.
