Premier Will Hodgman says the "fabric of Federation" is at risk as he heads to Canberra to defend the state's share of GST revenue. State and territory leaders will meet in Canberra tomorrow to discuss the carve up of the tax, with Western Australia threatening disengagement if their share is not increased. Federal Finance Minister and WA Senator Mathias Cormnann has suggested a freeze of last year's rates of distribution, a move that would leave Tasmania more than $200 million worse off. Mr Hodgman said he would not accept a compromise at the Council of Australian Governments meeting. "This COAG meeting is critical for not only the future of our state but the future of our federation," he said. "The fabric of our Federation is now at risk. "I'll be sending a very strong message that Tasmania should not be disadvantaged at all as a result of a discussion that now concerns Western Australiaa's own set of problems." COAG will also discuss increasing cooperation on family violence and counter-terrorism.
