The volunteer-run organisation made its debut on the air as 7LTN-FM on April 7, 1986, operating out of facilities at Newnham, and this week entered its 30th year of delivering music, news and conversation.
A cross-town move in 1989 and a few renovations have since seen City Park Radio become one of Launceston's most beloved sources of information and entertainment, with about 100 volunteers keeping the show running.
Treasurer and long-time volunteer Chris Ball said several events were planned to help mark the station's 30th birthday in 2016, with a particular focus on history throughout the remainder of 2015.
"The beauty of the station is that you are basically listening to your neighbour speak," Mr Ball said.
"There is also an incredibly diverse range of people here, and that is reflected in the programs."
Mr Ball said the station started as an idea in 1978, but it took eight years to secure a broadcast licence.
7LTN-FM began in 1986, and in 1988 the station moved to the cottage in Launceston's City Park and changed its name.
In 1993, work was started on a new studio complex behind the cottage, while a radio museum was also established with radios dating from the early 1930s.
Anyone with historic photos or memorabilia from their time at the station is urged to contact City Park Radio on 6334 3344.
