ALLEGATIONS of historic sexual misconduct at a Tasmanian private school have been reported to police. Calvin Christian School at Kingston has today approached police over allegations which came to light last night. The alleged abuse is said to have occurred about 25 years ago. The school has offered police its full co-operation, and has appealed to any student who may have information that could assist police to come forward. Principal Iain Belot said he was horrified, dismayed and deeply sorry for the allegations. “For the past decade or more, Calvin Christian School has applied rigorous and exhaustive processes in the recruitment of both teaching and support staff,” Mr Belot said. “And while we are confident those processes provide maximum protection for our students, we will be taking the added precaution of asking the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse to review our processes and to recommend any way in which the Commission believes those processes can be improved.” Mr Belot said the school would act on any advice from the Royal Commission. He said the school would be uncompromising in fulfilling its duty of care responsibilities to students. MORE TO COME
