Police Minister Rene Hidding says changes to the state's firearm laws will make owners more responsible and crackdown on stolen guns. The amendments, tabled in Parliament this morning, include mandatory three-month prison sentences for people caught possessing stolen firearms. Mr Hidding said the government will also strengthen storage requirements, including electronic security for handguns and premises with more than 10 firearms. "We are committed to reducing firearm thefts and we believe our reforms will help make our community safer," Mr Hidding said. The changes will also legalise paintballing and reduce the minimum age for supervised shooters from 16 to 15. Opposition Leader Bryan Green says Labor will oppose mandatory sentencing, while Greens Leader Kim Booth has described the changes as "negligent and irresponsible".
