The state government will increase funding for police and emergency services by 10 per cent over the next four years but has asked the department to find $42.2 million in savings.
As previously announced $33 million will spent over the forward estimates to hire an extra 108 police to meet the government’s pre-election promises.
Over the next two years $5 million will be used to purchase a large police boat to replace the PV Fortescue.
Total spending for the Department of Police and Emergency Services will $203 million this financial year up from $197 million in 2013/14.
