Not guilty plea to daughter's murder

A Youngtown man has pleaded not guilty to murdering his nine-week-old daughter.

Brett Andrew Kitchin, 27, appeared briefly in Launceston Magistrates Court this morning via video link.

The girl died in the Royal Hobart Hospital from serious head injuries on February 6, four days after an alleged incident in her Deloraine home.

Mr Kitchin was charged earlier this month.

His lawyer Fran McCracken entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf.

Several supporters of Mr Kitchin sat in the back of the court.

Magistrate Simon Brown committed him to trial in the Supreme Court in Launceston.

He will appear there at a later date.
