A slew of strange items - including a cash register, a television set and street signs - were discovered under a concrete pier at the end of Lindsay Street, Invermay, on Tuesday.

The find is the third illegal waste site uncovered in the North in the past eight months.

Last year old computers were dumped off a bridge at Corra Linn, and a "disgusting" illegal waste site was found at Railton, near Latrobe, last month.

Acting council general manager Rod Sweetnam said the region's waste program meant there was no tolerance for illegal dumping.

"We're fortunate in Northern Tasmania that most people want to do the right thing," he said.

"There have been only two serious reported illegal dumping incidents in our municipality in recent years.

"This is no doubt due to the council's relatively affordable tip fees, the two free drop-off days we hold each year at the tip, and the annual hard waste collection day we run."

The Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment and the council have agreed to help remove waste from beneath the Lindsay Street pier.
