Marco Daniel Rusterholz, of Goodwood, faced the Launceston Supreme Court yesterday for a directions hearing.
He has pleaded not guilty to having murdered Joshua Eric Newman and Angela Maree Hallam in Pioneer Parade in August 2012.
Co-accused David Ronald Morgan, originally from South Australia, appeared via video link from the Supreme Court in Hobart.
He has pleaded not guilty to having conspired to murder Ms Hallam.
Justice Robert Pearce vacated the October 14 trial date after he heard submissions from Crown prosecutor John Ransom, Mr Rusterholz's defence counsel Evan Hughes and Mr Morgan's defence counsel Tamara Jago, SC.
He noted that the trial would start next year, possibly March, but this was still undecided.
Justice Pearce adjourned the matter for mention on September 1.
