Police said the driver was making deliveries in Romney Street, Riverside, about 6.30pm when he was attacked by an armed man.
They driver then notified police, who searched the area.
They found and arrested a 17-year-old man at a house nearby, who was subsequently charged with armed robbery and appeared before an out-of-hours court sitting.
The driver was taken to the Launceston General Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries. He was later released.
