The new-look Senate will sit for the first time tomorrow and one of its first orders of business will be to choose a replacement for the vacancy created by the retirement of former President, Labor's John Hogg.
Senator Parry, who has served as Deputy President since 2011 is believed to be the Coalition's nomination for the position and is likely to gain support from across the chamber.
The position - the equivalent of the Speaker in the House of Assembly - will require Senator Parry to maintain order over preceedings in the upper house.
