AN INTOXICATED man allegedly lashed out at a Glenorchy petrol station on Saturday morning, using a fire hose to soak the shop after he was unable to buy a meat pie. It is understood the customer’s credit card was declined when he tried to purchase the pastry soon after 2am. The 32-year-old Primrose Sands resident left the petrol station but returned minutes later, with the fire hose in tow. Allegedly kicking down shelving as he made his way around the shop, the man used the hose to saturate stock, electrical equipment, fridges and pastry ovens. Computer and EFTPOS facilities were destroyed in the outburst, police allege. Police arrived on scene within minutes to arrest the man, taking him into custody. He was charged with destroying property and stealing, and has been bailed to appear in court at a later date. Power supply to the petrol station was disrupted by the incident, with trading brought to a standstill for several hours. Electricians were called to inspect the shop and business resumed as normal later in the morning. Damage has been estimated at about $20,000. The petrol station’s operators declined to comment.
