TALENTED junior drivers Alex Ashwood and Dylan Ford produced only the second tie in the 28-year history of the Youngbloods Challenge series at Mowbray last night.
Ashwood led the five-race series going into the final heat, but could finish only fifth on Elsudoku, allowing Ford, who had trailed him by six points, to draw level with a second placing on Livia Degerolstein.
It was a fitting result, as both young drivers are not only among the best produced in Tasmania in recent years, but rate highly on a national basis.
Ashwood is now based in Victoria, where he has driven 19 winners this season and is seventh on the concession drivers' premiership, while Ford recently finished second in the Australasian Young Drivers Championship and is sixth on the Tasmanian senior drivers' premiership, with 28 wins.
The final heat was won by Justin Howlett, leading all the way on favourite Chopstix Boris, but he wasn't in contention for the overall prize.
The final points were _
46 Dylan Ford, Alex Ashwood; 41 Matthew Howlett; 39 Duncan Dornauf; 35 Nicholas Brockman; 34 Justin Howlett; 33 Lyarna Graham; 32 Samantha Freeman; 27 Braden Howlett, Brady Woods.
