About 64,000 public school students returned to school, however independent students will go back today.
Tasmania Police ran its Return to Schools traffic operation yesterday, targeting motorists around school areas.
Northern District road and public order Sergeant Nick Clark said 30 officers kept an eye on the return of about 19,000 Northern students and were on the lookout for speeding and parking infringements.
``We ask people to pay particular attention around schools zones this week and parents, if they're walking that they use the proper crossings,'' Sergeant Clark said.
``Because it's not only motorists, it's also pedestrians that need to use the proper crossing.''
He said officers always targeted school zones, either in marked or unmarked vehicles, to highlight the need to slow down and be vigilant.
