Meander Valley Mayor Craig Perkins opened the Deloraine service with his address, paying tribute to those who lost their lives for Tasmanian freedom.
``I won't pretend to know what war is like, but I appreciate the sacrifice of the men and women to make this place what we live in today,'' he said.
``Today is a day of appreciation and sacrifice. A day of remembrance.''
In Westbury, numbers were up from last year at both the dawn and 11am service.
Westbury RSL sub branch president, Dennis Webb said the region's youth played a large role in their celebration of Australian freedom.
``Young people are embracing the Anzac spirit and a lot of that has to do with it being taught in schools,'' he said.
``We'll continue to involve young guest speakers each year.''
