Friend Riley Pearton set up the page to assist Miss Taylor's parents and sisters, in the wake of her death at Marcoola beach on the Sunshine Coast.
Miss Taylor had recently moved to the area to begin an education degree.
The website has already raised more than $1500 of its $10,000 target.
Mr Pearton said he felt the website was one way people could help the Taylors through their terrible ordeal.
"If all of (Katelyn's) friends can do something to contribute to making the situation more bearable ... at least if we can help (the Taylors) financially, they don't have that burden as well."
Mr Pearton said he was just one of Miss Taylor's many friends.
"She had heaps of friends ... you just knew her," he said.
Fundraising nights will also be held at Launceston nightspots Manhattan, New York and The Irish this weekend, says one of Miss Taylor's best friends Tayla Stevenson, who works as a bartender at each.
Hotel New York will collect donations at the door and have tins on the counter tonight, with owner Paul Freeburn pledging to match the total door donations.
The Irish and Manhattan will also have fundraising tins on their counters, and a $3 cover charge will be in place at The Irish tomorrow night, with all proceeds going directly to Miss Taylor's family.
