Scammer hits shops

Shop workers are being warned against a man operating a scam in the South and North-West of the state.

Police have received reports of the man telling shop staff he has locked his keys in his car, and asks for borrow money to pay a locksmith.

In turn, he leaves a false name, address, phone number and car registration.

The man is described as being in his 50s with thinning hair, tattoos on his arms and wearing a business shirt and trousers.

He has carried out the scam in shops in Burnie, Hobart and Bellerive this month.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
