Liberal Lyons MHA Mark Shelton announced the funding at the Tamar Rowing Club in Launceston with Rowing Tasmania president Jim Gibson yesterday.
Mr Gibson said the money would be used to repair wind damage on the start pontoon and other upgrades at the Lake Barrington rowing course in the North-West.
``We now lease Barrington [from the parks service] for 30 years,'' Mr Gibson said.
``So we call the tune, but when you call the tune you also do all the work.''
Mr Gibson said buying a new pontoon and other equipment would cost a lot more than $80,000, but using the many rowing volunteers meant the job would get done and the course would be ready for another 20 years of service.
He said rowing was a Tasmanian success story, with interstate and overseas rowing groups impressed with Lake Barrington, and more than 1800 participating members from 13 clubs and 21 schools across the state.
The work will be done by the start of the next rowing season.
