Jamie Lee Feil was charged with one count of wounding and one count of recklessly discharging a firearm and appeared before Magistrate Catherine Rheinberger.
The prosecution allege that a verbal dispute erupted between the neighbours at 10pm on Wednesday night and Mr Feil shot at the victim, but later told police he had thrown a 'Tom thumb firecracker' instead.
Defence lawyer Cameron Scott said the alleged victim had been threatening the partner of Feil.
The alleged victim remains in hospital but did not suffer serious injuries.
Mr Feil did not enter a plea and will re-appear on March 27.
