Craig Anthony Brown, 50, pleaded guilty in the Launceston Magistrates Court today to drink-driving, having used an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, and having committed a nuisance.
The court heard that the "Housos" film crew from SBS were filming "Australia's Biggest Bogan" and approached Brown to take part in it in September last year.
Brown agreed and, with a blood-alcohol reading of 0.185, drove onto a reserve at George Town, and set his car on fire using petrol.
Defence solicitor Fabiano Cangelosi said his client realised the stupidity of his actions and had burnt his hands during the incident, which served as a reminder.
Magistrate Simon Brown convicted Brown, fined him $2000 and disqualified him from driving for two years and six months.
