Opposition education spokesman Michael Ferguson and Lyons Liberal candidate Guy Barnett made the commitment at the school yesterday saying it would provide $100,000 to refurbish and upgrade the school's Environment Centre and provide appropriate primary industry educational resources for students, teachers and others across the state.
Funding will also help support ICT and AV displays and mobile conferencing.
Mr Ferguson and Mr Barnett said that agriculture was one of Tasmania's competitive strengths and the centre would help build on that.
Primary Employers Tasmanian chief executive Keith Rice said he was delighted with yesterday's announcement and that it would help provide primary industry educational resources to more than 4500 students across the state.
``Hagley Farm School is uniquely positioned to deliver a rural industry educational experience through its professional learning network to students from kindergarten to university including the 30 farm school entities that exist in Tasmania,'' Mr Rice said.
``It is enormously important for the rural industry to engage with students in our education system to showcase the exciting range of career paths and opportunities available in this vitally important Tasmanian employment sector.''
It was announced last August that Hagley Farm Primary School could be redeveloped into a centre of excellence and a Friends of Hagley Farm School group has been established to help make it a reality.
The Liberals said the $100,000 funding for the centre would come from the nearly $500 million in savings it had already identified.
