A Tasmania Police spokesman said the cause of the blaze was yet to be determined, but it was being treated as suspicious.
Firefighters from central Launceston and Rocherlea responded to the fire in Forster Street about 5.45pm.
Crews took about 15 minutes to control the blaze.
The house is tenanted but was vacant at the time of the fire.
Damage is estimated at $150,000.
TASMANIA Fire Service crews took almost an hour to contain a vegetation fire at Ravenswood yesterday afternoon.
The Vermont Road blaze was reported shortly after 3.30pm.
Four crews attended the scene, managing to stop the fire short of damaging nearby properties.
The blaze burnt about two hectares.
