The man, who was a Hawthorn supporter, was asked to leave his seat by security in the RACT Stand following the incident, before returning moments later to collect a child.
The incident happened in the third quarter. Police were also in attendance.
Post-game North Melbourne coach Brad Scott said Daw did not hear the abuse.
"Unfortunately you still have idiots out there," Scott said.
"If there is any good to come out of it is that it was a Hawthorn supporter, but other Hawthorn supporters, from my understanding, made it known to him that it's not on.
"Those Hawthorn supporters are to be applauded.
"Majak has been through a lot in his life, so this isn't going to worry him.
"But it's pretty disappointing overall that these sort of attitudes still exist."
Hawthorn chief executive Stuart Fox said the club was investigating the incident, saying it had a zero-tolerance attitude towards anyone who racially vilified a player, official or player.
If the man is a member of the club, he will have his membership cancelled.
