Shakespeare, wine a cultural combination
THEATRE buffs and wine lovers will be out in force when Shakespeare in the Gardens returns to Delamere Vineyards next month.
More than 100 guests are expected to visit the Tamar Valley winery for the annual performance.
Eight expert performers from Directions Theatre are poised and ready to bring the Elizabethan playwright's words alive.
Director Maeve MacGregor has given the much-loved A Midsummer Nights Dream an intriguing twist, promising to transport audiences to ``a fantastical universe where magic exists and the 80s have never ended.''
Delamere Vineyards co-owner Fran Austin said the annual outdoor concert was always a low-key, light-hearted afternoon.
``People just bring a picnic rug, some chairs and a basketful of beautiful food to snack on,'' she said.
Actors will transform Delamere's cellar door steps and pergola into their stage for the day.
Ms Austin said organisers were praying for fine weather.
``The only time we've had bad weather for our annual Shakespeare event was when Romeo and Juliet was staged,'' she said.
