From October, 2006 until February, 2008, Michelle was Minister for Community Development, Minister assisting the Premier on Local Government and Minister responsible for Sport and Recreation.
Michelle’s vision for a Tasmania that embraces everybody, irrespective of their circumstances, background or culture was reflected in her work in the development of a social inclusion agenda for Tasmania.

Michelle is currently Minister for Health, Minister for Children and Minister for Sport and Recreation - portfolios which she believes enable her to inclusively lead the Government’s wellbeing initiatives and health reform program, to better co-ordinate and integrate opportunities for all Tasmanians to access healthy lives, build stronger communities and share in better economic outcomes.
She lists former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam and former Victorian Premier Joan Kirner as having profound influences on her social and political values.
