Officers attended the scene of a crash at the corner of Cimitiere Street and Goulburn Street, about 10.30am.
A white Holden Commodore station wagon, registration number CS3986, failed to stop as required at an intersection displaying a stop sign.
The station wagon crashed into a white Holden sedan, which sustained minimal damage.
No injuries were sustained.
The station wagon then left the scene.
The vehicle was later found in Marguerite Street, George Town, and has been impounded.
Investigations are continuing and the driver remains at large.
