Following the success of the Ricky Ponting Tribute match last month, Launceston resident Kyle Barrett is asking Cricket Tasmania, Launceston City Council and the state government to do more in bringing top level cricket to the Northern Tasmanian venue.
More than 17,000 fans attended the Pointing extravaganza - the highest recorded crowd figure for any cricket match held in Tasmania.
``This petition was formed on the basis of being a grassroots movement, uniting the community to make Cricket Australia aware there is a real demand in Northern Tasmania for International cricket,'' Mr Barrett said.
The Liberals today pledged $30,000 to the council to carry out a business case into the possibility of a Big Bash League team being based in the city; if they are successful in March's stage election.
