Not guilty plea to biting policeman charge

A Ravenswood man has pleaded not guilty today to biting a Launceston police officer during an arrest on January 29.

Asador Mekonen Hinsta, 26, is also contesting allegations that he had a pen-gun capable of shooting .22 rounds, a diamond believed to be stolen, carrying a machete and knife in a public place and not wearing a seatbelt.

Police charged Mr Hinsta with assaulting an officer during the incident by alleging biting him on the right arm.

The matter is set to proceed to a hearing in Launceston Magistrates Court.

Mr Hinsta's part-heard bail application was adjourned until Friday.
